This is the main house on the same complex as the guest studio featured on my site. While the guest studio is new construction, the main house was a complete renovation. It was re-envisioned upon completion of the guest studio and is a reflection of the studio as it blends in with the natural surroundings and seems to emerge from the land.
Details and features:
• most of the windows were enlarged to capture the nearly 360º views of the gardens and water feature, just beyond
Interior features:
• the kitchen/sunroom/dining area were reconfigured. A wall was removed between the sunroom and kitchen to create a more open floor plan. The space now consists of a living room/kitchen/dining/sitting area. The dining table was custom designed to fit the space. A custom made light was designed into the large island to avoid overhead lighting and to add a convenient electrical outlet
• a new wall was design into the kitchen cabinetry to accommodate a second sink, open shelves to display barware and to create a divide between the kitchen and the terrace entry
• the kitchen was cavernous. Adding the new wall and a fabric paneled drop ceiling created a more comfortable, welcoming space with better acoustics
• a railing was removed and the staircase between the upper and lower levels is now lined with custom designed bookcases to hold artifacts and books
• in the living room, the existing fireplace features were stripped down and simplified to compliment the more modern design of the room
• the primary bedroom flows into the bathroom with a 4 foot wide pocket door that is full height to the ceiling. This bedroom/bathroom suite was reconfigured and now features custom designed built-in cabinetry and a walk-in closet
Exterior Features:
• a portico was specifically designed to direct the visitor to the terrace entry
• the terraced patio was designed to seem as though it is carved out of the hillside
• the approaching pathway allows a leisurely walk up to the terrace entry
